THOUSANDS of web users logged on to the Echo’s transfer deadline day coverage.
We once again teamed up with sports journalism students at Sunderland University’s Media Centre, in St Peter’s Campus, for the day.
Echo sports writers Graeme Anderson and Chris Young were also part of the action, keeping footy fans up-to-date on the latest moves.
Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill was busy in the transfer market, bringing in Sotirios Kyrgiakos from Wolfsburg, and Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge, whose girlfriend is The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford.
Senior lecturer in journalism at Sunderland University, Lee Hall, said: “This window has been the busiest in terms of rumours flying around.
“We got off to a great start with Wayne Bridge signing for Sunderland so early on.
“As usual we were kept guessing right until the last minute as time drew closer to the window closing, but it’s been a great success once again.”
The coverage also included live video reports throughout the day.
MA journalism student Chris Fryatt was one of those involved.
The 31-year-old said: “Deadline Day is like working in a real-world environment.
“We’ve even had people phoning up agents for quotes.
“It’s also a great chance for us as students to get our work published.”
