TRAGIC Kelly Bainbrige-Flor’s funeral will take place in the same church where she fulfilled her dying wish to get married.
The popular 29-year-old, who had been diagnosed with a rare secondary brain cancer, married Dino Flor at St Paul’s Church Ryhope in the summer of 2011 after being given just a week to live.
After being given the devastating news, she pledged to marry Dino, who she had met after briefly moving to the island of Madeira, and made a “bucket list” of things she wanted to do before her death.
She went on to defy doctors’ predictions and didn’t lose her fight for life until New Year’s Day at St Benedict’s Hospice, Ryhope, just hours after seeing in 2014 in the arms of her husband.
Her battle, which began four years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, touched the hearts of Wearsiders, and scores have paid tribute to the former call centre manager.
Her funeral will take at the St Paul’s Church in Ryhope Street South, at 11am on Monday, with a wake at Ryhope Cricket Club.
Kelly featured regularly in the Echo as she wanted to encourage other young women to be more aware of breast cancer and would often fund-raise for cancer charities.
Among the online tributes made to Kelly, who shared a home with Dino in Moorside, were those made by Echo readers.
One, whose user name is TheBlackCat19, said: “A terrible tragedy for someone to die so young, and after such a brave battle against illness. RIP.”
Kelly’s family have asked for family flowers only. Instead, people are asked to make a donation to St Benedict’s Hospice.
