A TEAM of cyclists headed by Olympian and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins will be among those to power their way through a city’s streets once again, when a competition runs one of its stages in the region.

Durham will host the Pearl Izumi Tour Series for the sixth consecutive year on Thursday, May 28, from 7.30pm, with celebrations starting at 4.30pm.

It will see nine teams of professional cyclists, plus a guest team, take part in the race as they compete to be named the top British cycling team and the champions of the competition.

Durham County Council will be hosting the event in partnership with race organiser Sweetspot.

Defending champions JLT Condor presented by Mavic – whose riders include Olympic champion Ed Clancy, who boasts six previous individual wins in the series – will be among the teams in this year’s events.

Two squads will make their debut – the ONE Pro Cycling team of England cricketer Matt Prior and Team WIGGINS, the new team for Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Durham will stage the fifth of 10 rounds, with the highlights to be screened on ITV4.
