WIND and rain was not going to put a dampener on the charity efforts of 30 children.

The little fund-raisers pulled on their hats, coats and gloves for a toddle aimed at raising cash for their Sure Start centre.

The biggest cheer of the day came when the children spotted senior family worker Debbie Unsworth dressed up as Milo from CBeebies.

She said: “The costume went down well and a few of the children came dressed up as their favourite TV characters.”

Debbie enlisted the help of mums and dads whose children attend Peterlee Sure Start.

She said: “We have a ‘Friends of’ group set up and we wanted to raise some money for that.

“The children walked form our base at Howletch Children’s Centre to nearby Woodhouse Park. It only took about 10 minutes to get there.”

Each child was given a certificate to show they had completed the walk – despite the bad weather conditions.

Debbie added: “The parents are still collecting their sponsorship money so we’re not exactly sure how much we have managed to raise so far.”
