IT was all child’s play for a group of warehouse workers who cleaned toys at a community centre to prepare for the new term ahead.

Five staff members from Asda George depot at Washington spent a day volunteering at Springwell Village Community Centre. Come September, children at the Fell Road centre will not have to worry about getting mucky after the kind-hearted warehouse workers donned their washing-up gloves to ensure their cleanliness.

The Asda depot’s community life champion, Rhoda Ellis, who organised the visit, said: “It’s part of my role to work with the community and we have done volunteer work elsewhere, including with Barmston School, in the past.

“It saves the centre paying to get a company in to do it.”
