WEARSIDE runners can now enter Britain’s biggest running event.

The general entry ballot is now open for the 2013 Bupa Great North Run, which will be held on Sunday September 15.

Last year’s Great North Run attracted a record number of applications, with more than 108,000 people applying to take part, from which 55,000 successful entrants were accepted.

Every postcode region in the country was represented on the start line, and an estimated £30million was raised by runners for hundreds of charities.

The 13.1-mile run is from Newcastle to South Shields.

To register for the ballot, prospective applicants should go to www.greatrun.org.

The ballot will close at noon on February 4 with all applicants being told whether they were succesful or not later that week.
