THIS is the moment a careless Sunderland council employee was slapped with a parking ticket.

The council van was spotted parked illegally in Park Lane, Sunderland.

As this picture shows, a parking attendant issued the white van with a ticket after he noticed it parked up in a loading bay near Innfusion bar.

The moment was caught on camera by a passer-by who works in the city centre.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: “At the end of the day, it’s either going to have to be paid or quashed.

“Someone is going to have to pay for it and the way I look at it, it is going to cost the taxpayer money.”

Sunderland City Council said that the member of staff would have to pay the penalty charge.

Les Clark, head of street scene for Sunderland City Council, said: “A penalty charge notice was issued to a city council van at 9.48am in Park Lane on Tuesday, August 30.

“The penalty has been paid.

“It is city council policy to allow commercial vehicles up to 20 minutes observation for loading or unloading.

“It was observed for a period of 22 minutes without any loading or unloading activity taking place.

“The civil enforcement officer therefore issued a penalty notice.

“We make sure that we treat council vehicles the same as any other and it is the driver who pays the penalty charge.”
