THREE people were taken to hospital after a road accident in Washington this morning.

Two cars, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Citroen Xsara Picasso, were involved in the incident on the A182 Washington Highway shortly before noon.

The driver of the Corsa was cut free by a crew from Washington fire station and taken to Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A couple escaped from the Citroen themselves. The man was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria for tests after suffering from chest pains and the woman to Sunderland Royal suffering from suspected neck and chest injuries.
