Three hurt in Sunderland bus shunt

THREE people were hurt when a bus collided with a car on Chester Road.

The incident happened at around 7.45pm last night near to the University of Sunderland’s CitySpace building.

Police confirmed the number 16 Stagecoach service had collided with a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

The collision comes after two further accidents involving Stagecoach buses in the city last month.

One passenger on the bus was fitted with a neck brace, while another was taken from the scene on a stretcher.

All three injured people were taken to hospital but their injuries were not said to be serious. Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the collision.
