TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill following a road traffic accident today.
Six people, including three children, were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital as a precaution following the accident at the junction of Side Cliff Road and Roker Park Road.
The smash, which involved a VW Golf and a Citroen Picasso, happened at around 1.45pm and emergency crews had the road closed for about an hour.
Watch manager Tony Chapman, of Fulwell Fire Station, said two of the children had suspected spinal injuries, but none of the injuries appeared to be serious.
However, he warned people using this junction to be extra vigilant.
The fire officer said: “They were really lucky, it could have been a lot worse.
“This is a blackspot, I have attended several road traffic accidents there over the years. It is quite a tricky junction and I would just like to point out to people to be extra careful when pulling out of Side Cliff Road onto Roker Park Road.”
