THOUSANDS of Wearside workers have voted to take strike action on November 30 over a shake-up to their pensions.
Public trade sector union Unison undertook the biggest ballot in its history, with members voting in favour of taking industrial action in defence of their pensions.
Unison members include people working in local government, the NHS, police support staff and the Environment Agency.
Clare Williams, Unison regional convenor, said: “Unison members have shown by voting yes in the ballot that their pensions are an issue that they care strongly about.
“But our members have seen their pay frozen, effectively a pay cut, at a time when the cost of living is escalating, many are struggling.”
