ALMOST 200,000 homes across the region have had insulation installed since 2008.

Figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change show more people than ever before are benefiting from energy efficiency measures, including loft and wall insulation.

Between April 2008 and December 2011, a total of 129,270 lofts and 89,406 cavity walls have been insulated across the North East – among the highest in UK.

The figures show that 15.7 per cent of homes in the region now have some form of insulation, saving householders hundreds of pounds in energy bills every year.

To help boost the figures further, British Gas is offering free insulation to elderly and vulnerable people, and £50 to anyone who refers someone to the offer.
