A CARNIVAL atmosphere helped a colourful community event go with a bang.
The 39th Peterlee Show filled Helford Road sports ground for the two-day bash, which began with a parade through the streets.
Families enjoyed fairground rides, sporting challenges, dog shows, horticulture competitions, live music, a fun run and an ice rink.
It’s a Knockout, featuring groups from businesses in the town and community groups, made a return after last year’s success.
A new feature, Peterlee Show’s Xtra Factor, was also popular.
The winner was Lily Brooks, a singer and keyboard player from Hebburn, who won £200 and a recording session at Sunderland’s Bunker studio.
Michael Leighton, from Peterlee, was second and Gemma Smiles, from North Tyneside, in third, with both given £50 in prize money.
About 10,000 people attended and organisers scotched rumours posted on Facebook that this year’s show was the final one.
Show committee chairman Coun Bill Jeffrey said: “It will be the 40th year next year and it’s also a jubilee, so yes, there will be another show and the committee will be trying to do something to make it even bigger and better.
“This is definitely not the last show.”
