A WOMAN drank six pints of lager before stabbing her boyfriend in the leg.
Jamie Leigh Phillips used a kitchen knife to inflict a 4cm wound on 31-year-old Darren Wilson during a row, Durham Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Christopher Rose told the court that the injury happened as Wilson was sitting on the stairs of the couple’s home in Seaham.
“It was quite a deep laceration,” added Mr Rose. “Mr Wilson needed hospital treatment, but there was no significant injury.
“Police interviewed Ms Phillips who made full and frank admissions about what she had done.
“Mr Wilson declined to cooperate with the investigation, and I understand the couple are back together.”
Phillips, 24, of Hawthorn Square, admitted unlawful wounding on March 11.
Jim Withyman, defending, said in mitigation: “I can confirm they are still together.
“Ms Phillips says she has stopped drinking alcohol since the incident and has learned her lesson.
“She has found the whole experience terrifying and has no intention of getting into trouble again.”
The Recorder, Mr Simon Phillips QC, sentenced Phillips to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
“You are a young woman who has never done anything like this before,” he said.
“You have attempted to help yourself by contacting the community alcohol service, and I see you are doing work in a charity shop.
“This offence would not have happened had you not consumed so much lager, but I think you realise that now.”
Phillips was ordered to pay £250 costs.
