VETS had to remove a cat’s eye after the family pet was shot by thugs.

Julie Brogan’s cat, Louis, was left for dead after the horrific attack.

Julie, 27, who works at Npower, said: “We came in to find Louis covered in blood and shaking.

“We took him straight to the vet and he told us Louis had been shot and possibly clipped by a car as well.”

The nine-month-old pet has undergone an operation to remove his eye, costing Julie £550 in vets bills.

The Houghton mum said: “I’ve no idea who did this or why anyone would want to do it.”

Julie’s two daughters, India, 10 and Chloe, nine, have been left belwildered about why someone would want to harm their pet.

Julie added: “They don’t understand, they are young. They are just as devastated as me.”

The vet told the family Louis was lucky to escape alive and could not give a long-term prognosis.

Julie said: “I think he’s lucky to come out of this just needing to have his eye removed and having to be in intensive care.

Now, Julie is warning other pet owners to be on the lookout.

She said: “If it was an accident then they still shouldn’t have left him to suffer. He was in obvious pain.

“But to be honest, I think that somebody has done this on purpose and it is just disgusting. Why anybody would want to hurt a helpless animal is beyond me.

“I’m going to contact the police to get some advice. Somebody suggested that he’s taken out of the area, but he’s our pet and the girls love him. We don’t want to see him go.”
