EMOTIONS ran high today as a lifeline respite care home was forced to shut its doors.

Devastated co-founders of Seaburn’s Donna Claire Venture said a final goodbye to the project they have devoted their lives to.

Despite Echo readers digging deep and raising £100,000 in a desperate bid to save the home, rising costs and council cutbacks forced Geraldine Plunkett and Audrey Turnbull to make the heartbreaking decision to close.

Now, the final guests have said their goodbyes and the Seaburn property is set to be put on the market.

Geraldine said: “We don’t know what the future holds. It’s sad and heartbreaking but we’ve got to get on with it.”
