A TEENAGE girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a car on a busy road.
The incident happened during rush hour in North Hylton Road, Hylton Castle, near the car wash and service station.
The girl was hit by a Nissan Note and was taken by ambulance to Sunderland Royal Hospital after suffering injuries to her shoulder.
The victim spent last night in hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Nissan Note was unhurt in the incident.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At 5.40pm last night we were made aware of a collision having taken place on North Hylton Road in Sunderland involving a car and a pedestrian.
“The pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment to a shoulder injury.”
Officers are now asking for anyone with information in relation the crash to contact them on 101 ext 69191.
Residents have expressed concerns in recent months over the speed of some drivers on that road.
