A DISABILITY football team will be playing in a new kit this season after winning a nationwide competition.

Lumley Gateway FC had been playing in second-hand jerseys because there was no money to buy new kit.

Now the team can play with pride after winning Host Your Kit, organised by UK cloud computing company Iomart Hosting, to help youth football teams struggling for sponsorship.

Jane Robertson, marketing manager for Iomart, presented the team with their new adidas kit.

She said: “The judges were really impressed with the way Lumley Gateway have widened participation in disability football, and the positive work that they’ve done around the Paralympics.”

Lumley Gateway FC is part of a wider group set up by Wear Mencap, Sunderland Gateway and the village’s Methodist Church, to provide activities for children and young people with learning disabilities.
