A KINDHEARTED team will rally round to dish up a Christmas dinner to help banish the blues.

A team at Wearside Women in Need are planning to serve up a traditional festive feast to anyone who faces being by themselves on December 25.

Held near its Washington base, the offer of a place around the table is being made to all adults facing a difficult time financially, as well as those who will be on their own.

Clare Phillipson, who leads the organisation, said: “We’ve run this for about 10 years now, and always held a Christmas dinner.

“It has always been welcomed by those who are on low incomes or vulnerable.

“Maybe they’ve literally not been able to afford heating their home or would otherwise feel isolated.

“We don’t want people sitting on their own, and it’s for people for a range of ages and difficulties.

“They don’t need to feel ashamed, or feel they can’t put the gas on or miss out.”

Anyone who would like to join in can book their place by calling 416 7300.
