AN armed robber who held up Chinese takeaway staff at knifepoint has been jailed.
Thomas Adair had a scarf covering his face and a knife in his hand when he demanded cash from workers at the Langley Fisheries Chinese at High Street, Langley Moor, County Durham, on September 24 last year.
Newcastle Crown Court heard during the incident, which was captured on CCTV, the 23-year old grabbed cash from the till and frisked staff, then stole their possessions.
He made off with £55 in cash as well as a cigarette case and a mobile phone.
Adair, of Cunningham Place, Gilesgate, Durham, admitted robbery.
He also pleaded guilty to a burglary at West View, Gilesgate, where more than £350 of property was taken and £78 in damage was caused last July.
Judge Colin Burn jailed Adair, who has previous convictions for armed raids on other takeaways, for four-and-a-half years.
The court heard Adair had been found asleep in the flat upstairs to the Chinese takeaway after the raid.
Prosecutor Jennifer Haigh said:”The defendant was in that flat, asleep in bed.
“The clothing he was seen wearing on CCTV was in that bedroom, on the floor.”
