Police are preparing to interview the suspected driver of a car which sparked a pursuit on the A19.

Cleveland and Durham Road Police Unit, which covers both force areas, received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically on the A19 in County Durham and found the car just off the road in Elwick.

A spokesman for the team said: "The vehicle immediately made off and was pursued at speeds in excess of 120mph before being lost in the Wynyard Services area.

"A short time later we received another call concerning the same vehicle having crashed in Seaton."

The suspected driver was arrested for failing to provide a breath sample, dangerous driving and failing to stop and is expected to be interviewed in a short time.
