SUPERSTAR Ben Forster today described the magic moment he won the ITV competition.

The 31-year-old beat Rory Taylor and Roger Wright on Wednesday night’s live finale and was crowned Jesus Christ Superstar after the audience vote secured his victory.

The Millfield lad said: “I’m just eternally grateful that people have taken the time and their hard-earned cash and voted for me.

“I really want people to know they have changed my life and I’m going to cherish it.

“I’m overwhelmed with the support my family and everyone in the North East have given me and I want to say a big thank you to everyone.

“I’m ecstatic that people showed me such great support.”

Ben said that he hasn’t stopped since the results were announced.

“It’s been amazing. I’ve got a mad day lined up.

“I could not believe it. When I was standing there, waiting for the results, I kept thinking I’m in the final two and the winner is going to be Rory.

“In my head I could just hear the word Rory, Rory, Rory, so I was so surprised when I heard Ben. I just could not believe it.

“I’ve never felt a feeling like this in my body.It was just an incredible moment, something I will always remember.

“I felt like I was in a movie. I don’t think you can comprehend something like that when it’s happening.”

Ben now has a short break before rehearsals begin next month.

“I’ve got research to do for the role and make sure my head’s in the right place and because I’ll be starting a big tour, I need to organise my life a bit for while I’m away.

“I’d like to get up to Sunderland as well to see all my family and thank them. I’m sure they all have £1,000 phone bills from voting.”

Although Ben is overjoyed to be tackling his dream role, it is not without some apprehensions.

“The role does scare me a bit. It’s a massive part and it’s something I’ve been working towards for a long time.

“The cast is huge. It’s 75 people and I’m the leading man. It is really daunting.”

Despite the challenges of his new role, Ben is excited for the opening night already.

“It will be pretty special,” he said. “The 02 Arena is the biggest in the country.”

Another part of the process he is looking forward to is working with former judge and now co-star, Melanie C.

Ben said: “We had a really great conversation at the wrap party and I’m so excited to work with her and get to know her on a more personal level.”
