TWO bright sparks have become the first apprentices to join The Bridges.
The apprentices have joined the building and operations teams on a permanent basis to assist in the day-to-day running of the centre.
Matthew Young, 16, of Hetton, has been hired to undertake the general maintenance of the air conditioning, plumbing and heating at the Bridges.
As part of his training, Matthew is working with the Inviron team to widen his skills on the systems and services that support the operation and infrastructure of the Bridges.
Next month, Matthew will be given additional expert support to fine tune his skills by specialising in one area of the operations.
Also joining the Bridges team is 19-year-old Kevin Hutchinson, from Hylton Castle.
Kevin joins the housekeeping team and is already studying for a NVQ Level 2 qualification in Cleaning and Support Services.
Andy Bradley, centre director, said: “We’re always looking for ways to support Sunderland’s younger generation.
“This is a perfect opportunity for both Matthew and Kevin to learn new skills in a bustling working environment at the heart of Sunderland city.”
