Sunderland shipyard memories wanted

A call is being made for former Sunderland shipyard builders to tell their tales.

As part of the Riverscape project, the National Glass Centre wants to hear workers' stories and memories to form part the exhibition, which celebrates the history and future of the River Wear.

The stories will also become part of Tyne and Wear Archives and Museum's collection for visitors and future generations to learn about Sunderland's history.

Alison Cleland, the Glass Centre's creative producer of education and audiences, said: "We want to celebrate the past as well as the present of the community in which it is based.

"Working alongside former Sunderland shipyard workers, we will be able to share this fascinating history with schoolchildren as well as local, national and international visitors."

The sessions will take place today, and June 23, 25 and 26 at the glass centre.

It is important that those taking part in the project can attend any of these dates.
