STUDENT Aidan Brook is making one last attempt to achieve his life’s dream of becoming a professional footballer – and he could score a contract with Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio’s former club.

The 20-year-old has entered Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition in the hope of clinching a deal with Leyton Orient, Wycombe Wanderers, or Di Canio’s last club Swindon Town, with three entrants to be offered one-year contracts.

Centre midfielder Aidan is under no illusions about the challenge, but is excited to be in with a chance.

Aidan, who is studying computer animation and digital special effects at Northumbria University, said: “My football career got off to a good start.

“I was with Sunderland at their Centre of Excellence for 18 months when I was 10.

“Unfortunately I wasn’t one of the 25 retained for the Academy programme.

“Since then I have played some semi-pro football with Silksworth Rangers but my career hasn’t taken off.”

The former St Aidan’s School pupil added: “I’m keeping fit at the minute by playing for my uncle’s team, the Welcome Tavern, so I’m ready for the competition.

“I’m 20 now, so I see this as one last crack of the whip.”

The competition will see hopefuls tested at trials and matches.
