Champion fundraiser Kaye Dixon is still going strong with her wonderful efforts to support soldiers.

The Sunderland woman has now reached the £50,000 mark in terms of funds raised.

Kaye, 35, is already a winner for her astonishing efforts. She was chosen as the Fundraiser of the Year at last year’s Echo Best of Wearside Awards.

Now she is calling on others to enter this year’s competition and potentially follow in her footsteps.

“It was a great night and it was good to get the recognition,” said Kaye who has been a staunch supporter of the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for five years.

She has tirelessly held events in honour of Sergeant John Amer, 30, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009. He was the brother of one of Kaye’s friends.

As she looked back on last year’s awards ceremony at the Stadium of Light, she said: “I did not think for one minute that I would win anything. I didn’t even think I would make the shortlist.

“But it was good to get the recognition.”

She urged other people to support this year’s Best of Wearside Awards and said: “It’s a great atmosphere.”

In the meantime, Kaye is continuing her own fundraising work.

Her next event is a charity dinner on October 3 at the Signatures Italian Restaurant with tickets at £25 each.

Kaye was a winner. Perhaps you can be too.

Put your name - or that of someone you think deserves recognition - in the running for honours.

Perhaps it’s the unassuming next door neighbour who spends their spare time making a difference in their community - just like Ronald.

Or it may be the reluctant hero who has risked their own safety to help others. Or it could be the courageous person who has spent their life tackling illness with dignity and bravery.

We know there are heroes galore out there who are worthy of awards. Tell us all about them. The awards will culminate in a grand finale at the Stadium of Light in November.

For now, though, we want you to get in touch with your very own heroes. Fill in the nomination form on this page or visit http://www.jpne-events.co.uk/
