CITY centre businesses have backed the Bid.
Plans to set up a Business Improvement District (Bid) in the heart of the city got the thumbs-up.
An audience at Sunderland Software Centre last night heard the scheme, which will see more than 450 businesses paying a 1.5 per cent levy on their business rates, had been given the green light by a majority of 108 to 64.
Bid Steering Board chairman Andy Bradley, said: “This is fantastic news for Sunderland city centre and will be a real catalyst for positive change. I’m thrilled the support we’ve seen from the business community has translated into a ‘Yes’ vote.”
