A city-wide fundraising drive will host its launch event tomorrow.
Spurred on by the death of her father, Dennis Seafield, 66, whose life was claimed by prostate cancer, Karen Seafield set up the KLR Macmillan Pioneers.
The aim of the group is to stage a host of events to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses.
After putting out a call for volunteers, Karen will host the group’s launch event at the Roker Hotel from 6pm.
The shopping and pampering night will feature a host of stalls.
Karen, 37, from Pennywell, said: “The response to the Macmillan Pioneers has been fantastic and we’ve had a lot of volunteers come forward to join the group.
“This will be our official launch event, but we’ve already started fundraising.
“ We’ve distributed 30 collection tins across the city, had coffee mornings and bag-packing events.
“People can find out more about joining the group at the launch event, plus we’ll have things like nail demonstrations, a champagne and canapé reception and a psychic demonstration.”
Over the years, the mum-of-two has raised £140,000 for various charities.
She said: “We make sure the money donated stays in the region. We feel strongly that it should help people in Sunderland and that people know where it goes.”
Future events include a masquerade ball at the Roker Hotel on October 23, and the owners of the venue have donated a table to Macmillan Nurses so they can enjoy the fun.
Tickets for the launch event are £3. For details email firstname.lastname@example.org
