LADIES at a Wearside bus depot could soon be stopping traffic after they bared all for a nude charity calendar.

Echoing the idea of a Yorkshire Women’s Institute group, whose exploits were made famous in the film Calendar Girls, 11 employees created the Stagecoach Sunderland Ladies Breakthrough Breast Cancer Calendar to raise money for the national charity.

Each member of staff, based at the city’s depot in Dundas Street, Monkwearmouth, posed with strategically placed bus-related props and had great fun to produce 12 different eye-catching shots, with a group photo at the end for December.

Bus driver Anne Seymour, 54, from Sunderland, is the brains behind the calendar and also stars as “Miss October”.

“I had the idea for a few months but now it has happened it is really exciting to see the calendars in print,” said Anne.

“We had a fabulous day shooting the calendar but we had to make sure the buses were parked in front of the depot cameras as we couldn’t switch them off!

“We also had to remove the CCTV from the bus so no one would get any surprises when they were checking the cameras.

“On the day it was a bit chilly, but we had a lovely warm bus and all of the girls have done themselves proud.”

The decision to strip off has so far brought in hundreds of pounds, with the ladies targeting more sales so that they give the good cause a big boost this new year.

Anne added: “So far we have raised £600, with 120 calendars decorating people’s homes, but we would love to raise £2,000 for the charity, as breast cancer has touched all of our hearts.”

Laura Smith, operations manager at Stagecoach North East’s Sunderland depot, who also featured in the calendar for the month of May, said: “The ladies have really done themselves proud with the calendar, as it is no mean feat to be photographed nearly naked in broad daylight in a bus depot.

“So we hope that people can get on board and buy a calendar if they pop in to the depot, or alternatively make a donation to our page to help reach our target.”
