BOSSES at the Stadium of Light are due to announce another big name act to perform in the city next year, the Echo can reveal.
Building on the success of the last three summers of Stadium of Light gigs, club bosses are finalising talks with promoters in a bid to attract more global stars to Wearside.
Gary Hutchinson, head of venue and events at the Stadium of Light, said: “We are confident that the Stadium of Light will host at least one concert next year.
“We have been working very hard over the last six to eight months with all the mainline promoters to make sure that the Stadium of Light, and the North East as a whole, is top of their agenda when it comes to siting a tour.”
Last year, about a quarter of a million people flocked to the city to see Take That kick off their European tour before Kings of Leon rocked the stadium just days later.
The four Take That gigs and one Kings of Leon show are believed to have boosted the city’s economy by a staggering £18million.
Gary, who is also the chairman of the Sunderland committee of the North East Chamber of Commerce, said: “The concerts bring with them a significant boost for businesses and people living in the city and we want to continue that.
“We are positive that we can because of our proven track record and the fact we get better year after year.”
