SISTERS will battle it out on a quirky TV show that sees them hit the road for a coach trip across the continent.
Annabelle and Emily Dittmar travelled hundreds of miles from their home in Broadway Grange, near Doxford Park, to Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and other European countries as part of Channel 4’s Coach Trip.
Their escapades and how well they fared against the other six couples on the journey will be screened later this month.
Sales assistant Annabelle, 18, said she had no idea Emily, 22, a dental nurse, had put them forward for the show until a letter arrived inviting them to an interview in Manchester.
She said: “I didn’t know she was applying but I thought it would be a good experience.
“We went along to the interview and we had to stand up and tell a funny story, I guess to see if we would be entertaining on television.”
The Sunderland sisters competed against couples from across the country for the show which sees contestants striving to keep their place on the coach.
At the end of each day, the group gathers and the pairs vote for the couple they would like to leave.
The couple with the most votes receives a yellow card. Two yellow cards becomes a red card, meaning they are off the coach and replaced by a new couple.
Annabelle said: “Filming days were really long and there were a few odd people and a few horrible people which made an awful atmosphere.
“But I think everyone on our coach voted well because the annoying people didn’t last very long and the nice pairs stayed on.”
The sisters filmed the show last autumn but have been warned not to reveal how long they lasted in the contest.
She added “It was an amazing experience.
“I don’t know if I can ever beat it, it’s definitely made me want to travel.”
