BLACK Cats legend Gary Bennett was on the ball as he signed copies of his new book.

The former defender proved a big hit with fans when he visited Waterstones, in the Bridges shopping centre.

The 49-year-old, who made 369 appearances for Sunderland AFC between 1984 and 1995, recently released The Black Cat, a “behind-the-scenes scrapbook” covering his long career in football.

As well as Sunderland, where he played in the 1992 FA Cup Final defeat to Liverpool, the Manchester-born star played for his home-town club City, as well appearing for Carlisle and Darlington.

The book includes many previously unseen photographs of this time on Wearside.
