SPEAKING out about his incredible weight-loss journey is proving a success for Sunderland’s biggest loser.
Kevin McLernon, who earlier in the year was crowned ITV’s Biggest Loser after shedding an amazing 40 per cent of his body weight, has been voted one of the region’s best public speakers.
The 39-year-old, who went from 32st 2lb to 19st 4lb, has continued to shed the stones and after winning the show started speaking to various groups about his battle with the bulge and making the decision to change.
The Seaburn man, who is passionate about motivating people to take control of their lives, said after being approached he joined the Professional Speakers’ Association.
He said: “Every year they have a competition among the new members to find the best public speaker and I had to talk for five minutes in front of the judges.
“I was up against some strong competition. There were people with some really inspirational stories and some really deep and meaningful things to say.”
But, Kevin was chosen as the North East regional winner and will be setting off to London for the national final at the weekend.
Shedding the weight has given Kevin the confidence to live life to the full and through his public speaking he hopes to inspire people to do whatever it is in their lives they really want to do.
He said: “Getting up in front of an audience doesn’t really bother me, but I am really excited about the final and I will be nervous.”
Geoff Ramm, marketing speaker and president elect of the Professional Speakers’ Association, said: “I am delighted for Kevin winning the North East heat and representing the region against six associate member finalists.
“I am sure he has a great career ahead of him.”
