A MAN and his dog have set off on the walkies of a lifetime.

Scott Andrews and his German shepherd Sam began their 11,000-mile journey around the British coast from Tonia’s cafe, in North Road, Seaham yesterday.

Dozens of well wishers, and their pooches, gathered to see the pair off, with some walking the first mile alongside them. The Murton Colliery Brass Band were also on hand to play the duo off.

Scott hopes to raise more than £200,000 for the Children’s Society and County Durham-based animal charity Stray Aid on his nine-month trip. The Asda worker will be stopping at Asda stores around the country, with staff and customers volunteering to provide accommodation.

“I can’t wait to get going and it’s great that so many people have come out,” Scott said.
