THE Diamond Jubilee festivities are continuing across Sunderland.
John Cannon, an author and expert on the history of the British monarchy, gave a talk this week on the nation’s most famous heads of state and their historic moments.
As well as the current monarchy’s 60-year reign coming under the spotlight, John Cannon also took the audience on a journey into the past to unravel the lives of other leaders including King Charles I, King George III and King Henry VI.
There are another two lectures to be held over coming months.
On August 15, Laura Sole will look at the Golden Age of Northumbria.
On September 5, Dr Rebecca Williams Dinsdale’s talk will be on resilience and dealing with adversity.
The lectures start at 2.30pm and last about one hour.
Please arrive at the Prospect Building between 2pm and 2.30pm to register before the lecture begins.
This was the fifth in a series of seven community lectures at the University of Sunderland.
The lectures are all free to attend and are held at the university’s Prospect building, Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s.
