A SUCCESSFUL Sunderland gymnast is aiming to beat the best when she represents her country this week.
Lauren Emmerson, 14, will be part of a trio competing for Team GB at the World Acrobatic Championships in Paris on Wednesday.
The youngster, of Fulwell, came through an intensive selection process at the national trials to make the side, for ages 13 to 19.
And she wants to go one better than the silver medal she won on the same stage two years ago.
Proud mum Joanne will be there to cheer her on.
She said: “What she has done at such a young age is fantastic.
“It is an amazing achievement.
“This competition will be very tough - China, Russia and the US all have strong teams.
“But she is focused and well-prepared, and I am sure she will do her best.”
Lauren has been a gymnast since she was seven after Joanne took her to a class at the South Tyneside Gym Club in South Shields.
A club coach spotted her potential and she joined their elite section.
Initially, she competed in a pair with Erin Mattinson, but Lucy Atkinson has since joined them.
