A PROUD GP was “honoured and shocked” to be nominated for an Echo award - but immediately passed the praise on to the wonderful team she works with.
Dr Claire Brown, of the Fulwell Medical Centre in Sunderland, has been put forward for the GP of the Year category in our Best of Health awards.
A grateful 73-year-old pensioner patient put Dr Brown in the running for honours and said: “She takes the time to listen to her patients.
“She gives excellent advice, does not hesitate to arrange for further tests if necessary and is the most caring doctor I have ever known.”
The pensioner signed off her nomination with the words “from a very grateful and alive patient.”
It prompted Dr Brown to say “that is so nice.”
“She takes the time to listen to her patients”
But she modestly passed on the praise and added: “This is completely down to teamwork and this is not just me. There is such good team support here.”
Dr Brown has been practising since 1989 at the surgery which handles all aspects of a GP concern.
That can include surgeries, visits, telephone consultations, and “anything else that comes through the door,” said Dr Brown.
The Best of Health awards have already had some impressive entries but we want even more.
It’s easy to nominate and you can do it either by filling in the form on this page or by going online and nominating on the JPNE Events website.
Feel free to put forward as many of your favourite health workers as you think deserve honours.
So whether it’s your favourite GP, an outstanding nurse or a popular carer, there’s a category for all parts of our health profession.
All entries must be received by the end of today. After that, a panel of judges will meet around a week later to begin the difficult task of narrowing down the field.
They will draw up a shortlist in each of our categories. And all those who make it to the shortlist will be invited to the finals at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, April 16.
