A PINT-SIZED singer is preparing to wow judges as she takes to the stage of the regional final of Open Mic.

Mia Carney – stage name Mia Paris – of Farringdon, will be up against the cream of North-East talent when she performs Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj, at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle. tomorrow.

The 11-year-old, who has a sister, Demi, 19, is taking part in the under 16s category of the competition.

The Farringdon Primary Academy pupil entered her first competition – TeenStar – earlier this year and reached the final at the NEC in Birmingham.

Mum Ashley Carney, 40, a teaching assistant, said: “I’m very proud of her. She is absolutely amazing.

“She wants to be a singer and she has also starting to go into acting. She says she is going to be a pop star and says ‘it’s not if I’m going to be famous, it’s when I’m going to be famous’.”

Mia likes most kinds of music, Ashley said, but she especially likes to sing material by Rita Ora, Paloma Faith and Beyonce.

She got great feedback when she sang StooShe’s Black Heart at the Sage Gateshead, where she had been invited to perform after being spotted by Newcastle singer Channy Thompson.
