A GANGSTER movie shot by a Sunderland nurse is to have its regional premiere.

Rob Burrows juggles being an emergency nurse practitioner at Sunderland Royal Hospital with stepping behind the camera and into the director’s chair.

His latest movie, Entwinement, which has opening scenes shot in Bishopwearmouth Cemetery, will be premiered to North East audiences at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle, on March 7, after having its world premiere at the Portobello Film Festival in London.

Rob said: “It was an honour to have received official selection to the London Portobello Film Festival, the largest in the UK, screening around 600 films from around the world. We were delighted to have been nominated as Best Drama.

“I am so pleased that Tyneside Cinema has now chosen to screen Entwinement so that it can be seen in the North East.

“Other cinemas are showing interest, as are Viva TV in Europe.”

Rob set up non-profit company Solarus Films in a bid to breathe new life into the North East film industry.

All of its films are self-funded and made by volunteers in the region.

Rob, who writes and directs the films, said: “Our objective has always been to provide a platform to showcase local talent and promote the area.

“I want our films to be screened as widely as possible. Our third feature film Flowerman is due to be completed this year and I am most grateful to the support of people and organisations in the North East that have helped make our endeavours possible.”

Entwinement is a psychological drama following the story of Michaela, whose life falls apart when she loses her job.

Flatmate Stephanie has always supported her, but the pair’s fortunes change when they meet two men who run a nightclub. With the distraction of gangsters, Stephanie’s relationship is soon on the rocks. As Michaela rebuilds her world, Stephanie’s falls apart, leading to a destructive climax.

It stars actresses Faye Ormston and Amy Ormston, Nathaniel Smith, Ashley Chandler and Jonathan Leonard, who appeared in Big Brother in 2006.

The screening, at 6pm, will also feature a Q&A session with Rob.
