Wearside audiences will be able to see the show when it runs at the Empire from September 18 to October 6 next year.
A spokesman from the Dirty Dancing production team said: “We are delighted to announce the next seven cities of the national tour. We have been overwhelmed by the success of the production to date and hope this amazing response will continue as the tour extends through to the end of 2012.
“It has been wonderful to see audiences across the country embracing the show with the same passion and support that we have been fortunate enough to receive in the West End over the past five years.
