Drivers using Sunderland city centre car parks are being offered the chance to save up to 65 per cent of parking costs with the introduction of new permits.
The two-tier system of 120 silver and gold permits has been launched to coincide with the reopening of the Livingstone Road car park, and new spaces on High Street West. A gold permit costs £1,350 per year, and covers parking in all the council-run car parks in the city centre, while the silver permit – at £900 a year – allows holders to park at the Civic Centre, Nile Street, West Wear Street, Charles Street, Tatham Street, and Gorse Road. Part-year permits are also available.
Coun Michael Mordey, portfolio holder for city services, said: “The council has over the years had requests from drivers about annual permits and whether it could offer some form of discount.
“The permit initiative is designed to ease the burden on existing regular users.”
