SUNDERLAND centenarian Jean Watson has celebrated a big day.
Jean toasted her 100th birthday with family and residents at Barnes Court care home, in High Barnes this week.
Jean’s daughter, Sheila Clarke said: “It is a special day for my mum and she was very happy getting a lot of chocolates and flowers – she loves them.
“She had a huge smile on her face when her telegram from the Queen arrived.
“The home organised a lovely party for us all and it was brilliant to spend the day there.”
Jean, originally from Fulwell, moved into a small cottage in Southwick when she was growing up.
She moved to Hylton Red House Estate when she had three children and then relocated to Doxford Park for 35 years, before moving into Barnes Court. The 100-year-old has plenty of memories, but there is one that sticks out the most.
“One of my mum’s favourite memories is from her childhood,” Sheila said.
“When she was growing up she had goats in her back garden and she would always be playing with them.
“She loves telling everyone about that.”
