A CAR dealership’s fund-raising for the region’s air ambulance looks set to take off after it unveiled a year-long calendar of events in support of the charity.

Mercedes-Benz of Sunderland will raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) after staff chose the charity in a ballot.

Staff have opened up a recycling collection point, with customers and neighbouring businesses around the Wessington Way site being encouraged to bring along good-quality used clothing, printer cartridges, mobile phones and books and DVDs during opening hours.

They will also take part in the charity’s It’s A Knockout fundraising event at Darlington on July 7, and go to its Gosforth Park ball on June 15.

On August 10, the dealership will hold a sponsored car wash and fun day, while staff members also plan to volunteer to support the charity’s participants in the Great North Run in the autumn.

Emma Noble, sales administrator at the dealership, said: “We chose the air ambulance because any one of us could need it at any time. We’d love to see old and new faces down at the dealership with donated items, all of which will go towards this life-saving cause.”

Diane Walker, public liaison officer at GNAAS, said: “We would like to thank all at Mercedes for their efforts.”
