A VOLUNTARY youth organisation is looking to recruit teenagers in Sunderland.

The Durham Air Cadet Force has invited boys and girls from Year 8 upwards to attend its twice-weekly parades at the Red House Academy in Rutherglen Road.

Sergeant Ellen Metcalf said the group is an opportunity for young people to get involved in activities they never thought possible.

She said: “We teach military skills, as well as sports, leadership skills and loads more. It helps to get kids off the streets and make new friends from all over the country.

“It’s not just for the outdoor types, there are so many opportunities.”

As well as youngsters to take part, Sgt Metcalf is looking to bring in more adults from across the county to become instructors.

•For more information on joining or becoming an instructor, search for Durham Air Cadet Force online or attend a parade, which take place on Monday and Thursday between 6.45pm and 8.45pm at Red House Academy.
