CONTROVERSIAL new SAFC manager Paolo Di Canio has another claim to fame – his own sausage.

A Sunderland butcher has created the Italian-themed taste sensation in honour of the Italian’s arrival at the Stadium of Light.

Stirk’s, in Grangetown, sold out of 30lbs of the Di Canio banger in under an hour after launching it at the weekend.

The lip-smacking recipe of lean pork, sundried tomato, mozzarella and basil has proved a winner with fans.

Business owner John Stirk is sure, like the sausage, the outspoken new head coach will become a firm favourite on Wearside.

The 26-year-old said: “I love the fella and think he is going to be great for us, and I think it is what the club needs.”

He extended an invitation to Di Canio, even if SAFC fail to beat Newcastle in Sunday’s all-important derby game. “He is more than welcome to come in and try his own sausage, any time he wants,” said John.
