A SUNDERLAND businessman is hoping a fund-raising event to help in the fight against cancer will be a knockout.

Nigel Oxman, who runs Justin Oxman Cars, has organised a white-collar boxing event to raise cash for South Shields-based charity Cancer Connections.

The black-tie event, which will be held on June 29 at Federation Brewery’s Lancastrian Suite in Dunston, Gateshead, has been organised with Harton and Westoe Boxing Club and will see Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall and Paralympian gold medallist Josef Craig in attendance.

Justin, 39, from Cleadon Village, said: “When I heard that Cancer Connections only gets about £12,000 of government funding a year, which roughly lasts them three months, I thought I could do something to help.

“So I came up with this idea and I think we should easily be able to raise in the region of £10,000. Both Josef and Jade are patrons for the charity, and they’ve said they will come along, so I think it’s going to be a really good night.”

The evening, which includes a three-course meal and entertainment from Re-Take That, will feature 10 men and six women battle it out over three rounds in the ring. The audience, who will be given red and blue cards, will then decide on the winner.

There will also be the chance for one person to walk away with £1,000 as a game of heads and tails will be played with a coin.

Justin added: “This evening is all about fighting cancer.

“Tickets sales are going well, but we are hoping a few more people will come along and support the night for such a fantastic cause.”

Tickets are £30. To book, call Justin Oxman on 07947 147 337. Free transport is being put on from South Shields.
