A Sunderland musician is back on home turf after rubbing shoulders with the stars at the world’s biggest music awards ceremony.
Trevor Sewell, from Millfield, and his band were invited to sing the blues at a prestigious pre-Grammy event at the legendary Whisky a Go Go, on Sunset Boulevard, LA.
As well as attending the main Grammys event itself, Trevor also found time to host the US album launch for his new CD, Hollow, in North Hollywood; recorded a TV show with David Longoria, a noted Californian virtuoso trumpet player; was invited to the world-famous Studio City and parties hosted by Grammy winners and nominees.
The musician, who’s a firm fixture on the North East blues scene, said it was a whirlwind of a trip which he’ll never forget.
Trevor, a member of the producers wing and voting member at the Grammys, said: “Each time we’ve been to America it has been even better than the time before.
“We were totally blown away from the moment we arrived when we were met at the airport by Mia Moravis, who organised the American tour, in a huge limo which was about the size of an average ship, complete with champagne bar.
“The whole trip was brilliant from start to finish. We had real VIP treatment throughout and we met up with some fantastic musicians.
“The album launch itself was brilliant with an amazing array of Grammy artists coming along to support and play with us. The Soiree, which was the pre-Grammy event, the following evening at the sold-out Whisky a Go Go was amazing.”
The writer, singer and guitarist, whose accolades over the years include a Hollywood Music in Media Award, as well as a British Blues Award, says he hopes the trip will lead to more opportunities on both sides of the pond.
He plays alongside James Ward on bass guitar and Trevor Brewis on drums in the Trevor Sewell Band.
“This trip really couldn’t have gone better and a lot of great possibilities have presented themselves as a result,” he said. “It was really fantastic to meet so many Grammy people that I had previously only known through Facebook.
“We have made a lot of real friends in Los Angeles. The Hollow launch was a sell-out and recorded for a possible DVD release and live album.”
