WHILE the Tour de France continues on the continent, bank workers in Sunderland have used pedal power of their own to raise cash for worthy charities.
Wearside staff from Newcastle Building Society joined colleagues from 19 other society branches and two head offices to take on the full 3,656 kilometre distance of the Tour De France over the middle five days of the race.
The Tour began earlier this month in Yorkshire, with hundreds of thousands of people turning out to support riders and their teams.
Staff from Waterloo Place rode their miles on exercise bikes, raising almost £4,000 across the company.
The Sunderland team’s cycling will see money raised for both Sunderland Cardiac Support Group and homelessness organisation Streetcare.
