HORRIBLE Histories author Terry Deary found time to catch up on some familiar reading when he took a breather from his marathon fund-raising effort.
Sunderland-born Terry, 65, is running the length of Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for Durham charity Integrating Children.
He called in at Housesteads Roman Fort, where he assisted staff as they built fencing to protect an underground water supply. Terry also signed some of the fort’s supply of his Rotten Romans books.
“Here in the North East we have a wealth of history on our doorstep,” said Terry.
“Hadrian’s Wall is a fitting place to carry out the run – and I hope to raise as much money for Integrating Children in the process.
“I’ve had such a warm welcome from the staff and it has been an honour to help out with conservation work at the site.
“I’m very grateful to all the staff, organisations and the public who have helped me both in the build up and during the run. Their support will go a long way to improve the lives of children and young people.”
