The star of The Apprentice will be taking up a post as a board of director at her old secondary school, Farringdon Community Academy.

I’m excited by the opportunities.

The Sunderland entrepreneur, who has built up her own fitness company, said she is delighted to be going back to school.

She said: “I’m excited by the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for me, as I join the board of directors at Farringdon Community Academy.

“It really is a great school, and as an ex-pupil it is a great honour to accept the role and it’s associated responsibilities. I’m very much looking forward to giving back to a place that gave me so much.”

Howard Kemp, headteacher at the Allendale Road school said: “Katie has been a great role model for our students and she shows that if you are prepared to work hard and take your opportunities, you can live your dreams.”

Katie has already contributed to governors’ awards evenings and to Year 11 conferences, to help out her old school over the last few years.

Mr Kemp said: “This new role, however, is very different and will allow her to support her old school as it moves forwards as an Academy Trust.”

Farringdon converted to Academy status in July 2013 and is the only member of the Brighter Academy Trust.

Mr Kemp said the motto of the trust is “Brighter hearts, Brighter minds, Brighter Futures” and believes it certainly seems that way with Katie on board.

Chairman of governors, Glynis Hossack, and Gavin Brown, chairman of the trust, are also both pleased the businesswoman is on board.

Mr Brown said: “We are delighted to secure the appointment of Katie to the board of The Brighter Academy Trust.

“Her business acumen and entrepreneurship will only help to strengthen the skills of the board and ultimately the performance of the trust.

“We are excited to be working with her.”
